Jon is a 39 year-old American photographer who is a permanent resident of Japan born in New York City and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area but firmly rooted in Tokyo, where he has lived for over 17 years. His main fields of photographic interest include travel/ adventure photography, architecture, landscapes, and Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines.

The bulk of Jon’s artistic vision is primarily expressed through high dynamic range photography (HDR), which allows him to fully convey the true depth and feeling of his subject matter in an often hyper-real yet strikingly intimate fashion. His deep understanding of Japanese language and culture combined with his inherently keen Western eye provides him with a unique perspective which he infuses into his syncretic creations that blend East and West and meld the past, present, and future.

A portion of his work is on semi-permanent exhibit exclusively at the Toast Gallery in Paris, France and he was selected to represent Japan in the 2009 edition of the Relais Et Chateaux Asia guidebook, an exclusive collection of images detailing 475 of the finest hotels and gourmet restaurants in 55 countries. He is also a Getty Images Contributor and was chosen as Imagekind’s Featured Artist for the month of November, 2008 and was also a Featured Artist in Issue #2 of BLUECANVAS magazine. Upcoming exhibits/projects include a collaboration with prominent Tokyo-based foreign photographers on a photographic documentary of post-March 11th disaster Japan and an exhibit on Cambodia and Laos in March at the lounge space Amrta in Nishi-Azabu, Tokyo.

Except where specifically noted elsewhere, all large (i.e., 70cm x 100cm or larger in size) prints are printed directly on 5mm-thick acrylic panels using Taiyo Printing’s latest UV inkjet press. Unlike conventional halftone printing techniques the press employs the proprietary Barrier Dot stochastic printing process, which divides the dot size into 7 different levels to recreate highly realistic and smooth color tones and image quality.

All images are limited to 20 prints each and are signed and numbered by the artist.

ジョン・シィアーはニューヨークシティに生まれ、サンフランシスコ・ベイエリア育ちの38歳、アメリカンフォトグラファーだ。17年前からジョンはここ東京で強い地盤を築きあげている。彼のお気に入りの写真のテーマは、旅行・アドベンチャーを通した、建造物、ランドスケープ、人物、仏教寺院や神社などである。ハイ・ダイナミック・レンジ・フォトグラフィー(HDR)、露出を変えながら同一被写体の複数画像を撮影し、それぞれの画像の適正露出部のみで合成する、という技法により制作されており、その結果極めて高品位で超現実的な写真表現が可能になった。その結果として時にハイパーリアルを思わせるほど強烈に、しかし私的にテーマの核心深く到達し、彼のアーティスティックなヴィジョンを表現する。

彼の作品の一部は仏・パリ所在のToast Galleryにおいて半永久展示されている。また2009年版Relais et Chateaux Asia Guidebook（世界55カ国の中から選りすぐられた475のホテルとレストランを紹介するガイド）に彼の作品が日本代表として選定されている。米Getty Images Contributorとして認定されておりBluecanvasというプロの写真家と芸術家向けの雑誌の2009年10月刊に注目アーティストとして載せられた。

全作品はそれぞれ20枚限定で作家の署名が入っています。更に、より一層写真の高品位性を高めるために大洋印刷株式会社の最新UVインクジェットプレスを採用しアクリルに直接印刷しています。従来の印刷工程と異なり、ドットサイズを7段階に使い分けるバリアドット方式の採用と高品質UVインクにより非常にリアルで美しく滑らかな色調表現を実現しています。
